"If you can’t remember, claymore is in your direction" - Unknown
Plot I’ve introduced you into this game with one among the several and famous sentences of Call of Duty 4, as the only name puts it on the Olympus of the videogames. The fourth chapter of the most famous war videogames saga has been published and, luckily, Infinity Ward and Activision, have decided to change its setting; in fact now we don’t have to face the dear and old Nazis (how many memories), but against a Russian dictator, Zakhaev, attacking simultaneously America and Europe, in such a way to put them in a total chaos, considering his commitments in the war.
The first mission But now let’s stop with the plot, and let’s think of the real game. After having a short training, our first mission is located on a cargo, so we run on board of the faithful Black Hawk on the ship, and we silently climb down in front of the command room where we fire the powder, quickly killing the other “worries”. So we begin our way down into the ship, annihilating the several guards and remaining enthusiastic by the graphic engine that moves our team and the shadows on the walls.... and after cleaning up your own foam from the keyboard…. We get to the last room, full in containers, we open one and find a nice A-Bomb, so our friends on the helicopter notices that 2 Russian Migs are heading towards us at an extreme speed, it’s best if we run away! So we start running but, inside another room, the wall falls under the Migs’ missiles explosion, and our Captain (for who played Call of Duty 1, he is Cpt. Price) helps us stand up and we start running again, while the ship goes down.... as we get on the bridge we run towards the stern of the ship and the helicopter gets one meter near from the border; so we jump and… exhausted we save our souls, staring at the ship, greatly made, going down. That’s the first mission, not that bad, uh? Graphic and sound part Speaking of the graphic part, we have to admit that characters are very well made and the textures of the dresses are rich in details, such as loaders, grenades..., the light-works are so detailed that they can project any particularity of the surrounding environment or of the characters on any surface, even irregular. The graphic engine is the first of the next-gen, and allows to shoot through the walls, and is greatly made, as the perforations change from weapon to another one, and this (dis)advantage will really change the way of online playing because we’ll have to take care of every corner and of the tight spaces. The sounds are very well made, as the several weapons have different noises, which are faithful to the original ones. The vehicles are only in the adventures rich in details, perfectly reproduced on APCs, tanks and helicopter , that will have important roles during the story. As in the last chapters, the adventure will be divided into different sections, in this case there’ll be the Marines army and the special corp of the S.A.S., each of one with their own weapons, engage mode and components that we’ll learn to appreciate.
Multiplayer The game, beside a very good single player mode, offers the online mode, that let you increase your level and unlock weapons, from the assault rifles to the light machine-guns, to the precision rifles, guns improvements, such as aims, grenade launcher, silencer....and even unlock player’s skills (like Devastating Impact) that allows you to increase walls’ penetration by bullets or the damage you cause by weapons. In the multiplayer mode there are the usual modes, such as deathmatch, team deathmatch, seek and destroy and a new mode: Veteran, where the damage of weapons is higher, weapons are more accurate and there’s no data of the hud, so we can experience something unique. After the publishing of the new map pack, some days ago, 4 new maps have been added, among which there’s a remake of the famous Carentan map, but under the form of Chinatown and a new map for snipers, Torrent, given the hard presence of vegetation. I have to conclude with another sentence of this amazing game, which I find extremely beautiful: "No man ever won a war by dying for his country. Wars were won by making the other poor bastard die for his." - General S. Patton |
