Assassin's Creed is an action-adventure game with moments of free exploration, made by Ubisoft. The game is involving and only in its genre, with events located at Templar’s’ times, with you playing the part of an assassin named Altair. GAMEPLAY The story is divided in seven chapters, in each of which we’ll have to commit several murders. Before every murder we’ll have to gather information about the victim to be killed, which will take us to long exploration sessions. Looking for a high sightseeing point on a tower or on a church spire will add new targets on the map and new interesting points will help us better orientate in the endless cities. Controls can be a little more complicated, but just at the beginning; after a few we’ll be able to express all the power of our assassin. Our Altair is a tireless athlete, seeing him climbing on high towers and escaping from dozens of guards thanking his agility is really exciting. We could use houses’ roofs to speedily move without being noticed, or simply walk through city streets. Just after a murder, walking in the streets is not that advisable, as we may run the risk to be recognized by people, who’s not going to hesitate and will call the guards to make us arrest. Escaping, most of times, is our better choice: Altair can get lost by hiding into gazebos, into straw, by hiding among the crowd or priests walking in the streets.
GRAPHIC The Playstation 3 version was suffering of little framerate lowers, "was suffering" as Ubisoft itself released a patch to solve this problem, downloadable form the internet at the beginning of the game. In Assassin's Creed cities, environment, are defined by many details with high level textures. Lighting is wonderful, day hour are greatly made; only flaw is the lack of the night that, in a game like this, would have given something more. People are made by a hundred of well characterized models, while Altair and the other main characters in the game are modeled in an errorless way. The cut-scenes made with the graphic engine of Assassin's Creed show some more bugs: well made faces but with lacking facial animation. There are some rare tearing and pop-up effects when you’re riding a horse, but these don’t affect the mechanics of the game, always going at 30fps.
AUDIO Totally dubbed into Italian, Assassin's Creed faithfully plays sounds and noises you’re likely to hear in a Medieval Damasco. The Italian dubbing is of a good level and helps the player to follow the complicated dialogues of the story. There is a repetition in some sentences said by second-order characters that makes one bad score.FINAL CONSIDERATIONS Ubisoft create a very good product that takes some fresh air into the videogames world, with good ideas and an innovative gameplay, with an exciting plot and a graphic that exploits new generation consoles. Maybe the only black mark is the excessive repetition of the situation we’ll be facing. |
