Resident Evil 4
|
In 2005, Resident Evil 4 made its appearance for Nintendo Gamecube and was immediately considered as one of the best adventure games ever realized thanks to its innovative sight and its action sequences, between the best in the history. The same year the Playstation 2 version came out with additional missions and some extra object unlockable during the game. Now even we, pc players, can finally play this title. But if you think that in our pc version you'll find some additional missions, more objects or some other piece of news, just forget about it. Unfortunately the game in its totality, including the fact that it was developed for the use by joypad instead by keyboard, is the exact transposition of the Playstation 2 version. Anyway, if you go over these little arrangement problems you'll find in this game the usual unmistakable terror and adrenaline shock that its predecessor gave us. In the case (I guess it's very absurd) you don't have the minimal idea of the story line of the game, here you are a taste: you're embodying Leon S.Kennedy, a secret agent, charged to recover the kidnapped daughter of the president. Your researches lead you to a little and bare Spanish peopled by not so active and bright inhabitants. The history is always the same (zombies are everywhere) but for a good part this title leaves space for a real narration of the events. Besides, its ?horror? nature, it is deliciously original, you'll go through abandoned farms, deconsecrated churches and abandoned mines, everything dressed by several enemy to face. As in the Play Station 2 version you'll be able to play a separate story (Separate Ways) embodying the spy Ada Wong and going through many common places but with a different visual. The success of this saga is mainly due to its dark and horror atmospheres we can find also in the fourth episode. All of this appears clear looking the graphic quality that got better its details than Gamecube and Playstation 2 versions. Unfortunately in the pc version there's not the fog that gave a sort of mystery halo to the whole scenery. This absence lets you note a better textures definition, then sometimes some not so likeable shelling in the polygons. Another point against Resident Evil 4 for pc is represented by cinematographic sequences. While on Gamecube these used the full power of the graphic engine, in the pc version they look as a simple copy of the PS2 ones with the addition of a compression. Besides, you won't be able to set any kind of sigh option, except for the graphical resolution. Fortunately the audio part hasn't suffered so much the passage from console to pc. Resident Evil 4 is rich in good level sound effects and a soundtrack that is right for the horror setting of the title. Both the noise of the shoots and the whispering made by the inhabitants of the village getting near to you will give you a definite idea of the macabre in the game. For what you can concern about the option Pro-Logic II works great while it's not supported the Dolby 5.1. According to us this little flaw can be remedied by the use of two good gaming speakers. The worst problem due to the integral transposition from PS2 to PC is the movement control. The pc version doesn't even support the mouse and the map of the controls for the keyboard results very difficult to learn. For this reason you won't have any better solution than connecting a gamepad. Once passed this last obstacle also this last title of the Resident Evil saga will give you unforgettable hours, just like its predecessors. You'll meet Zombies and bosses of end-level that will as always keep you glued on the armchair, you'll have the usual third person sight but with the difference that when you're going to use a weapon the weapon will be zoomed in a first person. The fighting phase is surely the best in the game. You'll have at your disposal an armory made of guns, airguns, tommy-guns and much more, and every single weapon has an attack and a very realistic damage. You'll be able to shot at zombies' knees and make them temporary fall down. But you'll have to be careful not to waste too many shots during your walk, given that the supplies are few. Anyway you'll have always a knife but, unless you don't want to get hurt, it's always better keeping a certain distance by the enemy. The movies and the actions into the story line are made in a very good way. Don't you think you can sit down and wait for the end of the movie, because you'll be called very often to press a combination of keys to go on or to execute some particular action. For example, you'll be called to drive a vehicle, to jump from a window, to jump on some enemies and much more, depending the part of the game. In conclusion we can say that you'll have at least 30-40 hours of pure enjoying with this title (without considering that you should find it in a quite good price) and maybe, once finished, you may want to start it over. Unfortunately the controls of the keyboard don't do justice to the good movement engine but you'll remediate the problem by a simple gamepad. Once again Capcom can make us owners of personal computers dream. Not to lose for the nostalgic people of the famous saga. |
